Hi, I’m Derek Duncan.
I’m running for President-Elect of the National School Public Relations Association because I believe in the power of authentic storytelling and in the people who tell those stories every day.
Listen to my candidate address below
School PR isn’t just a job it's a calling.
It’s about students who persevere. It’s about staff who go the extra mile and about communities that need to see and feel the real heart of public education.
But telling those stories isn’t always easy.
We face:
Limited staff and shrinking budgets
Misinformation and political pressures
Burnout, and questions about why our roles even exist
Advocate for continued professional growth.
Strengthen NSPRA’s work fighting misinformation & building trust.
Create tools to help members tell stories even in tough climates.
Support the mental health and well-being of our members.
I could tell you my story, about burnout, recovery, and why I believe so deeply in this work, but instead, I want to tell you about Holt.
Holt has autism. For years, he struggled in school. But in high school, with the support of his peers and school community, he found his place. By senior year, he was running the ball on the football field and receiving the school’s highest honor.
Every one of us has a Holt. And every one of us has a story, one that fuels why we believe in public education and school PR. It's our 'why.'
If this resonates with you, I’d be honored to have your support. More importantly, I want to hear your story.
